Stage 5 (142 km)

This the tour's first mando day from Safaga to Police Station camp includes a 35 km 3% climb en route to lunch. It came down to 2 sprints to the finish line flag with Paul and Emma edging out Rupert and Katja respectively to take home the 30 minute time bonuses. (On mando days 2nd place men & women earn 20 minute bonuses, 3rd places get 10 minutes deducted off their times.) Egyptian racer Mohamed Gamal also put in a solid performance but could not hang onto the top 4 competitors coming down the home stretch.
